Whether you’re a new Toastmasters member or a seasoned Toastmaster who is transitioning from the Legacy/Traditional education track to the Pathways education track, this step-by-step guide will show you how to easily take the Toastmasters Pathways Assessment and choose your first path. Let’s dive in!

This post was originally published on August 26, 2018 and has been updated.

Step 1: Go to the Toastmasters website.

Here’s the link: www.toastmasters.org.

Step 2: Log into your Toastmasters account.

If you know your login information, then:

  • Click the “Login” option on the top right navigation menu.
  • Enter your username (email address or member ID).
  • Enter your password.
  • Click the “Log in” button.

If you don’t know your password or if you’re logging in for the first time, then:

  • Click the “Login” option on the top right navigation menu.
  • Click the “Forgot password?” link.
  • Enter your email address (the one you wrote on your membership application).
  • Click the “Submit” button.
  • Check your email account for an email from Toastmasters International.
  • Click the password reset link inside of that email.
  • Enter your new password twice (in the “new password” field and “confirm password” field).
  • Click the “Submit” button.

Step 3: Click on “Pathways” and then “Choose a Path.”

Click on the “Pathways” option on the main navigation menu and then the “Choose a path” option in the sub-nagivation menu.

Step 4: Click “Continue to Path Selection.”

Click on the “Continue to Path Selection” button that’s on the bottom left under the Choose your path option.

Step 5: Click “Take Your Assessment.”

When you get to this step, you will notice that there are two options: Base Camp and Printed Materials. Unless you want to access your Pathways materials offline in print (and don’t mind paying for it to be printed/shipped to you), then you don’t have to worry about the “Printed Materials” option.

Also, you probably noticed that my screen says it will cost $20 for me to access my materials through Base Camp. That’s because I have already taken the Pathways assessment, chosen my path, and accessed it, so if I wanted to select another path, then I would have to pay $20 to gain access to it.

Important Note: Every Toastmaster gets one path for free, so you don’t have to worry about paying any additional money to access your first path online through Base Camp.

Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, simply click on the “Take Your Assessment” button that’s on the bottom left under the Base Camp option.

Step 6: Select a language and click “Start.”

Choose which language you want to take the assessment in and then click the “Start” button.

Step 7: Answer all the questions in the assessment.

There are currently 26 questions in the Pathways Assessment, and majority of the questions have the Likert scale response options. Also, there is a progress bar above the questions that will show you what percentage of the assessment you have completed so far (instead of how many questions).

Step 8: View the recommended paths and choose one path.

After you complete the Pathways Assessment, you will be shown three recommended paths. As you can see, mine were Innovative Planning, Leadership Development, and Presentation Mastery. I decided to select the “Innovative Planning” path because it was listed as my “Best Match.”

However, if you don’t want to select any of the recommended paths, then you can choose one of the other eight options (there are currently 11 paths). Just scroll down a little and click on the “Additional Paths” dropdown arrow to view and select one of the other paths. Each path will have a brief description under the name of it, but if you would like to get a better idea of what each path consists of, then click the “Read More” button that’s on the bottom right of each path description box.

After deciding on which path you want to select, click the “Choose this Path” button to gain access to it. Remember, you only get one free path, so be sure to choose wisely by picking the path that will help you accomplish your goals.
